Game Summaries:
The boys team started the regular season off with a bang. 2 minutes into the game, Korbin Matsunaga assisted Otavio Carneiro for the first goal of the game. Otavio, Tay, returned the favor and assisted Matthew Zinn to make it 2-0 after nine minutes. Over the course of the next 17 minutes OMS scored 7 more times making the score 9-0 at halftime. The 7 goals were score by Matthew Zinn, Rocco Genzano with 2, Kevin Alfaro, Filip Mijanovic, and Hudson Charles Thomas. Assists were by Parker Bailey, Kole Sheets and Korbin Matsunaga. In the first half 9 different OMS players recorded either a goal or an assist. That is close to 50% of the players on the team. Maxx Delgado recorded a clean sheet with no goals being allowed in the first half. Aurelio Capasso recorded a clean sheet in the second half. The team managed the game well with Filip Mijanovic assisted Maxx Delgado with 11 minutes to go in the 2nd half to end the scoring for the game. What a way to start the season. Well done gentleman!
OMS boys traveled an hour and a half into Kershaw County to take on Andrew Jackson’s JV team. AJ’s defense held strong for most of the half. OMS would pressure, but could not find the back of the net until the last minute of the first have where Cole Sullivan sent a ball to Matthew Zinn. In soccer an incredibly struck ball is called a banger. Matthew hit the ball with such force that from 30 out the goalie did not get the opportunity to even move. 3 minutes into the 2nd half Kevin Alfaro sent in a beautiful cross that Cole Sullivan buried to make the score 2-0. 6 minutes later, Filip Mijanovic drilled a shot that found the back of the net to make it 3-0. Otavio added to the score at the 42 minute mark. As the game was winding down Rocco Genzano finished a ball sent in by Canyon Turner. As the game was closing down Filip dribbled through 5-6 players on his way to getting his second goal of the game. The back line was phenomenal with Parker Bailey and Korbin Matsunaga shutting down everything in the middle while Benjamin Tamberelli locked his side all game long. Auri Capasso and Max Delgado kept a clean sheet again. Oakridge takes on Spartanburg JVB on Monday at home. Games are 6 and 7:15.
Oakridge took on Spartanburg JVC team tonight for the first time. The game started off with Filip Mijanovic slotting one away in the 4th minute. One minute later, Filip sent a through ball to Cole Sullivan who finished the ball to make it 2-0, 5 minutes into the game. 18 minutes into the game Matthew Zinn sent in a cross that Otavio Carneiro finished with a one touch. In the second half Cole Sullivan assisted Parker Bailey to make it 4-0. The game finished with Matthew Zinn hammering home a direct kick to make it 5-0. Sloppy field and a little sloppy play, but OMS came out on top with a 5-0 win. We play CMS @ 5 at Clover Middle on Wednesday.
OMS vs. CMS is always a rivalry game that you can’t be prepared for. OMS boys took on their first challenge of having players healthy. 6 players were not able to play tonight due to injury and illness. The gentleman that were able to go took care of business with a 3-1 win. Filip Mijanivic sent in a through ball that Cole Sullivan was able to finish at the 13-minute mark. OMS held the majority of the possession, but could not find the back of the net until 15 minutes into the second half. A player designed corner kick saw Cole Sullivan send a ball to Canyon Turner for the 2nd goal of the game. CMS fought back and had the first goal scored on OMS this regular season on a corner kick. OMS rallied back to finish off the game with Otavio crossing the ball in to Matthew Zinn to finish off the scoring for the night. Maxx Delgado held a scoreless first half while Aury goaltended in the 2nd half. Dalton Osterberg and Kole Sheets played very well tonight.
OMS took a nice road trip last night. OMS traveled to Spartanburg High to take on their JVC team. It was the second time playing them with similar results. Game kicked off around 7:30 making it a late night. 3 minutes in Tay Carneiro took a miskick by the goalkeeper and slotted it away to take the lead. A span of about 20 minutes went by with OMS dominating ball control until the 23rd minute mark where Filip Mijanovic assisted Tay again. 1 minute later Tay returned the favor after a string of beautiful passes that found Matthew Zinn for the 3rd goal of the game. After halftime, Matthew driblle across the field and hammered home a second of the night. Filip finished the game assisting Canyon Turner for the 4th goal and Hudson Thomas hammered home the final of the night with nine minutes to go in the game. Defense was solid behind Korbin, Ben Parker and Matthew Z. Maxx continued his regular season shutouts. OMS moves on to York Prep Monday. The cross-town battle of OMS vs CMS will happen at home next Wednesday. Would love to have a big crowd!
OMS took on York Prep for the second time and in the 1st minute Noah Rigby assisted Tay Carneiro for the first goal of the game. 6 minutes later Ben Tamberelli assisted a goal by Santi Molina. 2 minutes later Santi scores again with Filip Mijanovic assisting this time. 10 minutes later Filip assisted this time where Hudson Thomas gets another goal on the season. 3 minutes later Diego Laya Alvarez assisted Kole Sheets for the 5th goal of the game. Dalton Osterberg shares the wealth and assists Aury Capasso to finish the 1st half 6-0. 1 minute into the 2nd half Alex Wegiel assist Matthew Glant, not once, but twice in the matter of 4 minutes. 3 minutes later Cole Sullivan assists Matthew Zinn to add to his goal total on the season. Alex then assists Maxx Delgado at the 40-minute mark. Tay finishes the scoring as he began, but this time assisted by Santi Molina. As the game ending, York Prep scores on a volunteer goalkeeper to make the final 11-1.
The cross-town rivalry lived up to its name tonight. 5 minutes in Clover Middle is awarded a penalty kick and takes advantage taking a 1-0 lead. That lead was held until 26 minutes into the first half where Otavio Carneiro assisted Kole Sheets to get OMS on the board. OMS held possession of the ball, but CMS was quick to counter and take its opportunities. At the start of the second half OMS kept pressing and CMS keeper made some great stops. 9 minutes into the second half Tay assisted Cole Sullivan this time to make it 2-1. 8 minutes later Tay was at it again and saw Bowen Rudnick bury the third goal of the game. Ben Tamberelli worked the ball down the side of the field and allowed Tay to receive instead of give as he finished the scoring for OMS making it 4-1. In the closing minutes CMS struck again with a shot from right outside the 18. The game finished with the score of 4-2. Proud of the boys as they finished the region schedule undefeated.
