February 27-March 3 is READ ACROSS AMERICA WEEK. This is the 20th year the National Education Association has sponsored this event in an effort to instill a love of reading in our nation’s children.
Motivating children to read is an important factor in student achievement and creating lifelong successful readers. Research has shown children who spend more time reading do better in school and in life. Our students at Bethany will be taking a pledge to read every day. Please help them uphold this pledge by reading with or to them as often as possible.
Since READ ACROSS AMERICA WEEK is planned around Dr. Seuss’ birthday, each day we will have a different theme to go along with a Dr. Seuss book.
IN SOCKS (wear silly socks to school)
Tuesday, 2/28—IF I RAN THE ZOO (wear animal-themed clothes)
Wednesday, 3/1—WACKY WEDNESDAY (wear wacky, tacky clothes)
Thursday, 3/2—CAT IN THE HAT (wear a hat) Friday, 3/3—Dress as your favorite book character for a character parade.
Friday we will also participate in an event called ReadQuest, sponsored by Accelerated Reader. ReadQuest encourages students to read as much as possible and take quizzes on the books they read. Students across the US will participate to see how many quizzes they can take in one day.
We hope to have lots of fun next week as we celebrate reading!
