Mr. Potato Head? Lite Brite? Fifth grade students recently completed a Project Based Learning activity called The
History of Toys!
Project Based Learning is an academic strategy that requires students
to investigate a topic for an extended period of time. This method of
is student driven, requires collaboration, and inventive thinking.
Students began the unit by exploring the “Toy Emporium” teachers created
in the 4th/5th grade nest. Next, students read about different
traditional toys and researched toys from the 1950’s to
today. The final challenge was for students to use the information they learned about traditional toys and how they changed throughout history
create their own original toys. IMPRESSIVE doesn’t begin to describe
their creations! Fifth graders rose to the challenge! Check it out!
